Property search

Las Totobias

As you may know we have been looking for a property to buy near Las Negras as we are renting at the moment and we thought you might like to know what we have been looking at. Were we live, Las Totobias, is now for sale but, although we have been very happy here. it is not suitable for us in the long term and is priced over our budget.

Villa at the entrance to Los Cortijos

In April we agreed a price for a modern villa at the entrance to the urbanisation Los Cortijos Las Negras. The house was a bargain and very impressive but 10 days before we were due to complete the sale the owner received a better offer and asked us to match it so we pulled out. There were some aspects of the property we were not entirely happy with so maybe it is just as well.

The new villa on the urbanisation in Las Negras

At the same time we put in a very low offer for a villa on a new, small gated complex in the centre of Las Negras just a couple of minutes walk from the beach. This development has been taken over from the promotors by the bank. It comprises a terrace of 10 houses and 7 individual villas. The only house suitable for us was at the end of the development. It was very private, backed onto open countryside and had a 500 sq. metre plot with a private pool. We heard last week that the bank had accepted our low offer but had another slightly higher offer from a French investor for 3 or possibly 4 of the villas. If he only wants 3 they will sell the one we like to us. We should know this week.

An adosado

The adosados, terraced houses, are also a bargain. They have 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 250 sq.metre plots and 5 have private swimming pools.

The adosados

They are not for us but are a superb holiday home investment. Contact us if you would like  more information.

The older villa on Cortijos Las Negras

We also viewed another villa on Los Cortijos de Las Negras. A lovely, older property in a great situation and with excellent views but it needs a lot of updating the cost oif which puts it well beyond our reach. It is with Remax Indalo in San Jose. Above is their publicity photo.

Cortijo La Fragua

Another interesting house we viewed is Cortijo La Fragua off the lane to the beach El Playazo de Rodalquilar. This is a lovely property but beyond our budget. Photos and details are on

Pedro & Natalie’s house

Pedro and Natalie’s is another excellent property for sale in Las Negras. Too big and expensive for us and not enough garden but it is a very good family house close to the beach and village centre.

The land looking towards the sea

This morning I have looked at some land opposite Los Cortijos Las Negras. The plots are urbano 750 sq. metres with mains electricity and water. Flat land, facing south, sea views and about 10 minutes walk from beach and surrounded by green belt. You can build 180 sq. metres. There are only 7 plots. Three have been reserved and we may reserve another because the price is about a quarter that of the plots on Los Cortijos and better situated.

About Margaret Merry

I grew up in Falmouth, Cornwall, England where, after leaving Falmouth High School, I spent a year at Falmouth School of Art. Then followed three years at Hornsey College of Art in London where I obtained a Diploma in Art and Design. I then spent a post-graduate year at the West of England College of Art in Bristol where I gained an Art Teacher?s Diploma and a Certificate in Education of the University of Bristol. I lived and worked in Truro for over 30 years and became one of Cornwall's most popular artists. My paintings have been exhibited in New York, Tokyo, Paris and London and have been bought by collectors from all over the world. I have published 4 books which became local bestsellers - 'The Natural History of a Westcountry City', 'Margaret Merry's Cornish Garden Sketchbook', 'Sea & Sail' and 'Tidal Reaches'. In 2002 I moved to Spain and now live pn a small farmer the town of Alhabia in the Alpujarra Almeriense in the Province of Almeria. I now get my inspiration from the dramatic scenery of Andalucia and its old cities, towns and villages which I usually capture in watercolour. I also enjoy portraiture and figurative art, particularly nudes and dancers. For these paintings I use artists' soft pastels. I have written and illustrated 3 children's books - The Wise Old Boar, The Lonely Digger and The Adventure of Princess The Pony - which have been published in the USA.
