A couple of days ago a goat gave birth right outside our house. When I opened the gate, the mother ran off to join the distant herd, so I picked up the kid and carried it to the goatherd who had seen what happened and was coming to meet me. He saw that I was very taken with the kid and asked if I’d like her. Tempted as I was, I politely declined as, although the kid was sweet and a female, bottle feeding a kid every couple of hours is not on my agenda. The goatherd told me that there were five other goats in the surrounding countryside that had also just given birth.
This afternoon, returning from a swim at El Playazo, Digby came across two goats separated from their herd at a crossroads on the track to our house. They had both just given biirth, one of them to twins.
