For almost two months we have been able to pick fresh figs every day. First from the trees on our land in Granada and now from those here on our land in Almeria.
Figs come in a variety of colours, from pale green to black, and vary in size. Most of our trees here produce small purple fruit but this little old tree produces large, almosts black figs with an intense sweet flavour. Further up the lane nearer the road we often see cars pulled off the road and their occupants helping themselves to figs off trees that do not belong to them and this practice seems to be accepted. Perhaps this is how the expression ”I couldn’t give a fig” originated.
